We had a mixed up weekend for sure! Saturday was very warm and sunny and we had lots of visitors.
The Nanny and Grampie were over to cut down a bunch of trees that were taking over the back of the house. After the big noise was over, I went out for a few minutes on my lead but was nervous, belly walked everywhere, so I retreated back indoors.
The Grampie had brought over some East Coast Canada Spring delicacies. First was a big bottle of Maple Syrup which he made himself using maple trees on his land. I still don't understand that process. Then he produced these~
They are called fiddleheads and are supposed to taste great with butter, a little sea salt and a squeeze of lemon.
They look a little too green for my taste.
I almost had a wonderful meal myself though. That afternoon, we had more visitors, and the wee ones were all out running. The wee lad had run on the other side of the berm and said there was a strange dead bird there. The PM went to investigate and it was a chick-hen. Yes, I thought my dreams had come true, a chick-hen for me waiting there to be found. Since they are all Veggies here, I figured the PM would cook it all up for us cats. Don't want to waste something like that! A gift from Bast!
Well the PM decided that one of the foxes must have got it from a farm and dropped it for some reason and she left it right there. She checked yesterday and it was gone, they must have come back for it. Dang!!
Then the weather shifted and yesterday was freezing!! The PM had already cleaned out the woodstove and put all the gear away for the summer. We had to get everything out again and dirty it all up!!
It felt good though, get the damp out of my fur!

That woodstove looks like it would feel nice to nap in front of.
The wood stove looks very comfortable.
Too bad you didn't get that chick-hen, Goldie!
Our Mom loves Fiddleheads!
We thinks maybe the foxes needed the chicken more then you did as they don't have anyone to feed them fox food. The fiddleheads looked yummy, we have never heard of them before, the Mom wants to give them a try. Maple syrup from your own trees must be pawsome. Our Mommy says she vaguely knows how you do that and she thinks it's a lot of work. ~S,S,C & F
We'll take a pass on those wonky-looking green thingys, but oh, that fire looks fabulous!
It looks like you found a great sunbeam in the first picture.
hai! does yoor mommeh make dem shrews?! Hansel loved his so much, he's still alive, but tesla ripped the hiney off hers acaz her destroys things her loves.
We wud lyke to bai sum more shrews pwease.
When our Beans went off on their holly days, mum cleaned out the woodburner cuz she said it wouldn't need to be lit again before the autumn. As soon as they got back, they lit it again! We were glad though. When they went to Canada and New England last year, they brought back maple syrup from NB and they loved it!
It's a shame you didn't get to eat that chick-hen.
We have never seen Fiddleheads before. They look very interesting! It is so cool that your Grampy makes his own Maple syrup.
Goldie, your furs are simply glowing in that sunbeam:)
That's a gorgeous photo of you, Goldie! #$1 says she has had fiddleheads once or twice on the Island!
It was nice of your PM to leave the chicken because that fox maybe/probably has little ones to feed?
Your Friends,
Tommy, Tama-Chan and Sei-Chan
Never seen those green thingies before. I dont think I would like, ut the chicken sounds good, sorry your mum wouldn't let you have it.
Hugs GJ x
Mom said she's never seen fiddleheads before, but they sure look yummy!!! We don't get much chick-hen around here either. Our mom is a veggie, but dad isn't, so sometimes we get a little bit of chick-hen.
The veggie looks yummy!
Have a good day!
(^^,)
A real live chicken? In your yard?? That DOES sound like a dream come true!!
Goldie, Maybe it would be fun to just fiddle with those heads -- they'd make great toys, I fink. And it's always nice to have a toasty fire. It was cold where we live yesterday, too, and we hads a fire to warm up. Hope you get some chick-hen soon!
We love the picture of you Goldie.
Sounds like you had a wonderful weekend. Visitors and warmth on Saturday and relaxing by the woodstove on Sunday. Perfect.

Wow, you had a busy and full weekend! I've never seen a fiddlehead, but it looks very yummy.
Too bad about the chicken. Maybe there will be another time a fox will leave one for you ;-) I hope so!
My momma Ellie likes greenery so I bet she would have tried one of those green thingies! Sorry you missed out on the chick-hen. I'm twitching just at the thought of it.
We don't like green things around here!
It's also gone from 90+ degrees last week to 60 today. Weird weather.
