We had a mixed up weekend for sure! Saturday was very warm and sunny and we had lots of visitors.
The Nanny and Grampie were over to cut down a bunch of trees that were taking over the back of the house. After the big noise was over, I went out for a few minutes on my lead but was nervous, belly walked everywhere, so I retreated back indoors.
The Grampie had brought over some East Coast Canada Spring delicacies. First was a big bottle of Maple Syrup which he made himself using maple trees on his land. I still don't understand that process. Then he produced these~
They are called fiddleheads and are supposed to taste great with butter, a little sea salt and a squeeze of lemon.
They look a little too green for my taste.
I almost had a wonderful meal myself though. That afternoon, we had more visitors, and the wee ones were all out running. The wee lad had run on the other side of the berm and said there was a strange dead bird there. The PM went to investigate and it was a chick-hen. Yes, I thought my dreams had come true, a chick-hen for me waiting there to be found. Since they are all Veggies here, I figured the PM would cook it all up for us cats. Don't want to waste something like that! A gift from Bast!
Well the PM decided that one of the foxes must have got it from a farm and dropped it for some reason and she left it right there. She checked yesterday and it was gone, they must have come back for it. Dang!!
Then the weather shifted and yesterday was freezing!! The PM had already cleaned out the woodstove and put all the gear away for the summer. We had to get everything out again and dirty it all up!!
It felt good though, get the damp out of my fur!
First off we'd like to thank everyone for their concern over Shade's poor nose. It is healing nicely and does not appear to be infected. She is still trying to escape though. The PM said she'll be taking her out with her harness. Shade is the only one who will put up with a harness as she had to wear one for years.
Since it is Mother's Day weekend, I thought I would talk a bit about my kittens. I was found in a field, almost dead from starvation, a year ago with my five kittens. We were brought to a shelter where I had to be fed with liquid to build my strength so I could take care of my babies. I got stronger and so did they. When they were big enough, they were adopted and I was the last one to leave six months later, when I decided to adopt this family in the woods. I think about my kittens sometimes. When I escaped once, I ran around crying and the PM thought it looked like I was looking for my kittens. I hadn't been outside in the wilds since I had them so I was worried they hadn't made it inside.
It makes the PM a little sad to think about my kittens, she said she would have adopted one also if there had been any still with me.
The wee lass loves to think of my kittens. She has a kitten collection and everyone once in awhile I find myself surrounded by them. It is kind of comforting.

When the PM brought me home, they gave her a sign they had made for me as I was the longest female resident at the shelter and I needed some advertising.
They had called me Mama at the shelter. I would like to introduce to you my son, Mo. He was the only kitten left when they made this and he left shortly afterwards. Cute little fella, if I do say so myself.
This Mother's Day, I'd like to send warm, purry wishes to all the Moms out there, bean and feline alike. I would like to also send some snuggles to my kittens too, wherever they are, hopefully being loved and cared for as they deserve!

Wordless Wednesday~ I don't remember posing for this?
Wordless Wednesday~ I don't remember posing for this?
It was a bad day for me but I am OK now.
First off, the photo from yesterday's post of Goldie outside was from last weekend. I was outside too and loved hanging out on the playground!
The PM thought the foxes had made their way back into the deep woods but saw them a couple of days after we went out so we were all put on house arrest again. We have been crazy though about trying to escape. I thought I had the perfect plan.
We had another crazy bird in the woodstove and the PM had the wee ones all in their spots ready for action. The wee lad opens the stove door, the wee lass opens the front door and the PM stands on a chair holding a blanket to block access to the kitchen. Banshee and Goldie were locked in the bathroom and I was asleep upstairs, or so they thought. The doors were opened, the bird flew out and I took off too.
This creature was spotted in the berm earlier and the PM was wondering if the groundhog had a hole somewhere in there.
Well, I saw a hole and went to investigate. There was scrambling, a flash of buck teeth and I was making a bee-line back to the house. I thought my nose felt funny and I knew I was in trouble when I saw the look on the PM's face.
I ended up at the V-E-T as the PM was worried. It did look pretty bad. All these photos are taken after I came back as the PM was too upset before we left. I have cream to put on it for 10 days and I ended up getting my yearly needles at the same time as the vet thought I was OK. She thinks it was probably a gash from the groundhog and we have to watch out for infection.
After a bite to eat, the PM took me up to her bed.

The moral of this story is "If you see a hole, do not stick your nose it in!!!!!!!".

I am going to sleep a long, long time and try to forget about those horrid yellow teeth.

We had a busy weekend up here in the woods as the wee lass had her birthday party. It was a nice day and it was great to have all that company. I was brushed and given lots of scritches. The PM's sister commented how I was such a sweet boy. She should come over more often!!
We are finally back to blogging! That was our longest break ever and I am very glad it is over. Still lots to do around here but we are striking a fine balance.
Spring has finally arrived out here in the woods and we are so very thankful.
Our Easter weekend looked like this.
Very depressing indeed.
The past few weeks it has rained and warmed up so that the only snow left in the yard was this tiny pile last weekend.
This week it reached 28 degrees outside and the landscape is getting greener by the minute! They are now complaining that they have jumped right into summer! They need to enjoy each day and quit the fussing!!
The PM was happy last night, lying in bed knowing her family was safe beneath their covers, a cat to each bed while the spring peepers sang their wonderful marsh song into the night.
It has been a real mixed bag this weekend out here in the woods.
The temperature was not too bad and the snow was melting fast! The bad news: it flowed right into our basement.
The PM and MM went to the bank and got the monies for the new windows! Yippee, I can't wait! They even got some extra money and can do a couple of other projects as well. The problem: they can't agree on what to do and how to do it. Everything has to be totally completed by mid July and times a tickin'! In a couple of weeks the gardens will start crying for attention and that is weeks of work. The PM is up to her eyeballs in magazines, how-to books, websites, paint chips....
Banshee has Spring Fever bad! She bolts every time the door is opened and has escaped four times. She has to be locked in the bathroom when the beans are bring in groceries or loading up the car as she can't be trusted.
Also the wee lass has been having some fear issues. The PM figures it is just a stage she is going through. She seems to be preoccupied with death, mainly the PM's and is needing extra attention. The PM's Grammie died last August and the PM thinks the wee lass is now just dealing with it as she had only just turning four next month. She's been having nightmares and is very emotional. The PM is trying to do special one on one things with her to ease her mind a bit.
Yesterday the PM and wee lass dressed up as fairies all afternoon and the PM made up a song about a beautiful fairy in her kitchen. The wee lass asked the PM to sing it at least 20 times. The PM remembered a gift she had bought the lass when she was brand new and went to get it. She had been waiting for the right time to give it to her and this was it.
It is a sweet set of Fairy rooms that snap together to make a little cottage. Each room comes with a fairy.
The real neat thing is that one of the fairies has the same name as the PM.
The PM carefully took "Danica" out of her little satin bag. Isn't she sweet. But what's this?
Yep, "Danica" is missing a hand. The PM could have cried.
Thankfully it was found in the folds of the bag and can be glued on.
The PM is rather emotional herself now and is feeling drained. We have decided to take a little break from blogging so the PM can get the renos planned, the wee lass contented and her creative juices topped up. I don't know where you get a bottle of creative juices, maybe on Ebay.
The PM is in need of yellow and green. She is tired of grey and brown. I have decided to post her favorite photo from last summer to help her get her mojo back!! I still can't get over how handsome I looked!
